Alumnae Win 2nd Annual Spring Alumnae Game
There was #trashtalk being thrown around all week on Twitter from the Alumnae, who had dubbed themselves the #grandmas. The hype was there, the anticipation at a head, with the Gusties coming off three weeks of spring practices, they were sharp, ready and raring to go! The #grandma's had a late addition, with Jess Richert '13, goalkeeper standout from 2008-2012 joining their force the week of the game. Perhaps it was the late addition, perhaps it was the injuries and loss of Heather Goff to her Malaysian Adventure, but the Gusties couldn't muster a full comeback for the victory, eventually falling 2-1 at the final blow of Coach Burnett-Kurie's whistle.
Maggie Lane '13 had an early goal to put the #grandmas up 1-0. Despite some attack from the current Gusties, the #grandmas would take the lead into halftime. After the half, Maddi '17 would knock in a cross that Britt would get a piece of and knock off the crossbar. A scrum in front of the net insured and the ball would end up in the back of the net... at this moment we still have to check the "official scorebook"to see who was eventually awarded the goal (check back for an update!). Abby Stenoien '11 would put in the game-winning goal shortly after and the #grandmas would hold on to the one goal lead and come out victorious.
The Gusties gathered after for some food and to watch the men's team take on their Alumni, getting current Gusties to being to connect with their ladies who once walked in their footsteps and held it down on the Gustie Soccer Field.
