Day three in California we were getting ready for our first
pre season game against Redlands. We started off the day exploring nature and
some of the mountain ranges by going on an early morning hike. We climbed
rocks, learned about the different plants and trees along the path, and got to
adventure around the beautiful landscapes.
We were then set for our tough match up against Redlands
college. We knew they were going to be a good team but we were excited to put
the hard work we put in during preseason, to the test.
We started off the game strong and played our Gustie tempo as we started to find ourselves and our speed of play on the field. We didn't wait long until getting on the board when just 16 minutes in Sophomore, Lauren Johnson,
put away an incredible 20-yard free kick into the upper corner of the net
to put us ahead 1-0. We didn’t stop there and drew another free kick just 6 minutes
later when it was Senior, Chase Miller’s, turn to astound us all and put yet another
free kick into the goal to put the good guys up 2-0. We played out the first
half feeling consistent and confident going into the second.
The second half was just as fast paced and exciting as the
first. Senior Emily Skogseth and Junior Abby Mullenbach were able to add 2 to
the score putting in well placed shots in the box to put us up 4-0. We ended
the game winning 4-1 with Freshmen Abby Goodno getting the start in net while just
allowing one goal and eight saves in her first collegiate game.
We knew that there were still a lot of things we had to work on but with this dominant first win we were confident and excited for what was to come on the season.
