9/17-9/22 Player of the Week: Maggie Lane

Senior Captain Maggie Lane nabs the Player of the Week this week, capping off a long week of practice with a fantastic performance at Saturday's game in St. Joseph vs. St. Benedict's.  Maggie consistently works hard at practice, striving to make herself and her teammates better every time she steps on the pitch.  Her focus this week was working to not only create shooting opportunities but taking them as well-- and the focus paid off! Her first goal came off a ball that rolled to her about 25 yards out, Maggie put her head down and struck the ball towards goal.  It left her foot and floated up, but dropped quickly after it hit it's peak and fell in the net behind the keeper's outstretched arms to give the Gustie's their first lead in conference play.  She didn't stop there though!  The entire team continued to press the Blazer's defense and when the Gusties won a corner kick, Maggie made sure to capitalize on it!  Leah Brossoit placed a dangerous ball inside the box, Maggie tracked and got a head on it to deflect it to the back of the net, putting the Black and Gold up 2-0.  Despite a quick goal by St. Ben's, Maggie kept pressing and shooting to try to get a third!  Congrats Maggie!!
