Another deadlock in the books

Below is a recap of our game against Saint Ben's. It is our second consecutive tie where we battled for another two overtimes but were not able to put one past the Saint Ben's keeper. We came out on fire, controlling the tempo of game and outshooting the Blazers 8-0 in the first half. In the second half we were able to put up another 4 shots but could not convert on any of them. With a break in MIAC play we are looking to get back to our scoring ways and focus on our next game when we battle St. Kate's at home!

ST. PETER, Minn. – For the second consecutive game the Gustavus women’s soccer team played to a double overtime scoreless draw, this time against Saint Benedict on Saturday at the Gustie Soccer Field. The tie moves the Gusties to 7-4-3 overall and 3-3-2 in the MIAC, while the Blazers move to 8-2-2 overall and 4-2-2 in the league.
“We played well in the first half and got a lot of shots on goal early in the game to establish our attack,” Head Coach Laura Burnett-Kurie said. “We played hard and battled, but we just need to find a way to put the ball in the back of the net. I was impressed with the way Lucy Thompson (So., Edina, Minn.) played and Ashley Becker (Jr., Farmington, Minn.) got another shutout against a strong attack.”
Gustavus got five straight shots off in the first 18 minutes of the game and outshot the Blazers 8-0 in the first 45 minutes. Saint Ben’s then put together more of an offensive attack in the second half, outshooting the Gusties 5-4. At the final buzzer, the Black and Gold outshot the visitors 13-9.
Chase Miller (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led the offense with eight shots. Becker made three saves in her seventh shutout of the season.
Gustavus has a week off and then hosts St. Catherine at 3 p.m. next Saturday.
