Gusties Scoreless draw after 110

Below is a recap of our game against Saint Mary's. It was a great team effort where we had our chances to score including one that went just off the post and out of bounds with an unlucky bounce. Throughout the game we played good soccer and put out a solid performance on a late and rainy game in Winona. We are looking to build off of this tie and start to put the ball in the back of the net!

WINONA, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team battled Saint Mary’s to a scoreless draw Tuesday night. The tie moves the Gusties to 7-4-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Cardinals move to 5-7-1 overall and 0-6-1 in the league.
Gustavus outshot Saint Mary’s 15-12, including an 11-6 difference in the first half and 2-0 margin in the second overtime. The Gusties also had 12 corner kick opportunities compared to three by the Cardinals.
“I’m proud of how we traveled to Saint Mary’s for a late game in the rain and put together a strong performance,” Head Coach Laura Burnett-Kurie said. “We hit a post in the second half, they committed themselves defensively and blocked some key shots. We are now focused on continuing to build on tonight’s positives and head into this weekend ready for a strong result.”
After 110 minutes in goal, Ashley Becker (Jr., Farmington, Minn.) made five saves in her sixth shutout of the season. Her counterpart, Zoe Boleneus, made three saves. Katie Ashpole (Fy., Chaska, Minn.) led the offensive pressure for the Gusties with four shots.
“Becker made a couple good saves,” Burnett-Kurie said. “She came out strong on a couple in traffic and handled them very well.”
Gustavus next hosts Saint Benedict at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
